Creative Interventions for Children

Creative Interventions for Children is a program of the Center for Prevention and Youth Development, through the Mental Health Association of Essex County, Inc. Creative Interventions for Children provides families with Outpatient Services and needs-based community programs at our Montclair location. Our therapists are Licensed Clinicians and have extensive experience in working with children and adolescents.

We offer a creative approach to services that meet the unique cultural, developmental, and emotional needs of your child. Some of our interventions may include:

• Individual and/or family sessions
• Play, art, drama, and/ or music therapy
• Anger management
• Parenting skill development
• Stress reduction
• Conflict resolution
• Psycho-education workshops
• Assistance in advocating for your child's mental health needs in school
  

Outpatient Services

Outpatient Services are office-based services for children and youth with behavioral and emotional difficulties. Youth ages three through seventeen may be referred for Outpatient Services.

The goals of Outpatient Services are to reduce the youth's symptoms and provide the family with strategies to address their child's specific needs. Symptoms that might be present include:

• Sadness or mild depression
• Difficulties with attention, behaviors, or peer relationships in school
• Oppositional attitudes and behaviors
• Feelings of anxiety or frequent worrying

Fees:
Payment for Outpatient Services is required at the time of the service rendered. If your child has private health insurance we will provide you with an invoice that you may use to submit to your child's insurance carrier. If your child has Medicaid we will submit a request for payment of services rendered directly to Medicaid.

Admission Process:
A referral for Outpatient Services is made directly through the Mental Health Association of Essex County, Inc. Eligibility for services is determined by a Licensed Clinician who will meet with you and your child in our Montclair office to discuss your child's strengths and needs.

Community Programs

Creative Interventions for Children has the flexibility and expertise to design and provide a short-term program to meet the needs of the community. Some past programs have included Crisis Intervention Prevention Strategies, Understanding your Child's Mental Illness, and Safe and Sound: For Children Who Have Witnessed Domestic Violence.
